TV NEWS - Project Evaluation

Image
Pre Production, Planning and Research. What worked? I felt this stage was really beneficial as I went into this Unit, not knowing exactly how the format and structure of a news channel really was staged out, so I found it harder to be able to start planning for our own news channel, without knowing the normal news structure and what would be best for our demographic on youtube. So researching and looking at other news channel formats and the traditional/youtube news formats was extremely beneficial for the development of our own news channel and reasonings behind our choices for each part of our news channel.  It was also an integral part learning about the language used through delivering news as this was important that we got this right, otherwise our news wouldn't be as impactful if it wasn't delivered correctly to the audience which may have also undermined the credibility of our sources and news delivery. I wanted to ensure as DOP and also as the Graphics creator, that I

TV NEWS - Workshop Films and Output

30/10/2020 - Green Screen Work Shop  What we did today x  Today in our groups we used the green screen room and had a workshop on how to get the best from the equipment we will be using to film our news piece. This includes a teleprompter, the Panasonic camera and also the LED lights for lighting. Although we will also be using microphones for both the Live OB and also our news room piece, we were unable to use these today.  Within our group we set up the teleprompter with our first drafted script, which allowed Sydney to read through on camera to see what worked and what didn't.  As DOP I also got a chance to use the camera and start visualising how to frame Sydney within our studio news piece. This was beneficial as my other Job role is working on the graphics for our news channel. This allowed me to picture the spacing needed around Sydney to allow room for the graphics to also be on the screen in the correct position.  What went well?  I was really nervous about being DOP for

TV NEWS - Test Shoot

Test Shoot As DOP it was important that I took on board what I'd learnt previously in regards to shooting at home, unfortunately due to circumstances we are limited with what we can shoot for interviews and the equipment we can use. I will be using my DSLR Canon 250D for anything I shoot from home and is the camera I used for the shots below. As our news package is our main focus since the Live OB is an interview and doesn't feature any cutaways which will be conducted and recorded on Zoom. My Test shoot focuses mainly on what we will be needing to shoot in regards to our News Package and Studio Segment.  As I was aware that I would be needing to light a singular object, I decided that I needed to research the best ways to do this, especially with the equipment I had access too. I also want to make sure that I convey the correct message that we are looking to show throughout our News Channel. This is that we are reliable, factual and professional as a news channel which I think

TV NEWS - Production Paperwork

Pre-Production  Risk Assessment completed by Matt Park. The Risk Assessment completed by Matt Park, allows us to film safely which is so important to ensure everyone taking part in production both cast and crew are kept safe. As production can contain light, eletrical equipment and busy work places, there are many hazards that needs to be highlighted to ensure nothing is damaged and no one is hurt. You can see the assessment below.    If this step wasn't completed, it means that there would not be insurance covering me if anyone was hurt or the equipment became damaged, that's why it is so important to have a risk assessment to be able to analyze the risks during production and to minimise any chance that a injury or situation could occur. Risk Assessment Two     Storyboards created by Matt Park Storyboards are so important as it allows the crew to visually view how the shots and sequence will look like.     If Matt was not to have completed the storyboard, it could have left t

Initial Ideas - Tuesday 20th October 2020 As we received our brief today, it was important we began brainstorming ideas within the groups we had chosen. Like our documentary unit it is important that we ensure ideas are super relevant to the current climate and interesting. Especially as news is so fact paced and ever changing, we wanted to ensure as a group that the topic we chose is currently relevant. After having a lecture today touching base on the importance of news and also how quick and current news needs to be, this is something I will ensure I refer to throughout this unit and also if I were to work on any future news items.  We brainstormed three ideas as you can see below, this was useful and exciting as it was interesting to see what sort of topics were interesting to each individual within our group.  IDEA ONE (CHOSEN IDEA LIVE OB) The first Idea came from team member Matt P, he had an idea in which we researched and covered the closing down of cinemas. Due to the curre
