Fiction Adaptation - Evaluation

Image
Pre Production, Planning and Research. What worked? I feel this stage was really beneficial for me as it allowed me to really develop, research and come to terms with my idea. I hadn't ever actually researched and analyzed  a poem before, so I wanted to ensure I did this properly and really come to terms with what the Poet was trying to convey through the poem written. In this case I decided to chose 'The Road Not Taken'  by the poet Robert Frost.  An Integral Part was also writing the Script, this was key because it was the first part of the developmental stage, in which I needed to of understood the poem at this point and taken from the poem what I wish to convey into my own piece. I loved this part of the stage, as it allowed me to creatively put into a script what I took from the poem, what I thought the poem meant and how I could then adapt that into my own short film.  I also found the test shoots extremely beneficial, as it allowed me to see how natural l...

Fiction Adaptation - Workshop Films/Output

Image
Workshop Films and Output  Due to current circumstances we are studying from home, which means workshops have been conducted on Zoom and haven't been the same as what they would normally. Our first workshop was with Sam who went through premiere pro with us, I felt confident in this stage as I have been an avid premiere pro user for around 7 years now; however, it was beneficial to have a refresher related to this unit.  Our later workshop we looked at both the Soviet Montage and the Kuleshov Effect in which I will be researching and speaking about below. We also were told to look at a number of videos relevant to fictional adaptation that I would like to analyze.  In 1942 the Soviet Montage evolved in Russia as filmmakers found themselves without the facilities to be able to make films, they began using film from previous projects which they re-cut and put together to create different meaning.    Soviet montage has also been used to manipulate time in films suc...

Fiction Adaptation - Test Shoots

Image
Test Shoots  So that I could ensure my production run smoothly, while also ensuring that what I want to experiment with works. I did some test shoots so that I can make sure I am prepared and can overcome any issues I may face during production.  As I've mentioned, due to current circumstances, I am having to do production on my own with no production or crew team. Firstly, I wanted to look at a few things I already feel nervous about due to the circumstances and initial problems this may cause.  1 - Filming in POV  Initially I am extremely worried about filming in POV, as although I feel this will be crucial for the audience and will create a tone/feel for my character, of the audience being inside the characters mind. I am nervous of how I am going to pull this of. I will be using my Canon 250D and have looked for a strap or a harness to purchase so I can get the POV affect, however, without being extremely expensive, there didn't seem to be many available to...

Fiction Adaptation - Production Paperwork

Image
Pre-Production Paperwork Below is all the production paperwork I have used to ensure that my production is organised, safe and runs smoothly.  Script Script Writing, I always find quite difficult as I find it hard to put words onto a page if I can't visually see it but I felt fully prepared at this stage in what I wanted my short film to be about and what I wanted to go into it. Writing the script is beneficial as it allows me to then go onto the storyboard and shot list which are the main factors that help me go from developing the idea and the storyline, to then being able to visually see the story and prepare for the production stage.  Risk Assessment  This is the Risk Assessment for my project below, Risk Assessments are so important as it allows me to ensure I am filming safely and putting no one at risk of danger or on production. In this case, the circumstance is slightly different as I am currently only allowed to film with myself due to Covid guidelines. Therefor...

Fiction Adaptation - Analysis of Three relevant Films/Adaptations

Image
Fiction Adaptation - Analysis of Three relevant Films/Adaptations Within this blog post I will be looking at three different films that will inspire my own adaptation for different reasons. Whether it's the approach a director has taken through their own fictional adaptation choices or filmic approaches within certain films I have seen or researched, I will be discussing this below.  Jojo Rabbit                                             Fig 1.  JOJO Rabbit Film Poster  (2019) The Plot Jojo Rabbit in my opinion is a brilliant film which is actually a fictional adaptation of the book 'Caging Skies' by Christine Leunens. The plot surrounds Jojo who is an activist of Hitlers views and opinions, he helps distribute leaflets as propaganda which indicates his choices of supporting Hitler and he is also part of Hitler youth. On this journey through being a supporter of ...

Fiction Adaptation - Ideas and Development

Image
First Ideas Having had a look at my poem 'The Road Not Taken' and after I have continued to re-read to ensure I am at a stage in which I am starting to understand the words and meaning, I now feel I am in a position to start creating and brainstorming for the piece.  Straight away I knew that my adaptation was something I wanted to ensure set the same mood and tone I got from reading the poem. That in life, it sometimes is going to make you chose a path which may be a difficult decision and could massively impact your future, the poem itself is called 'The Road Not Taken' which almost already offers in my opinion a somber tone. Instead of focusing on the road the speaker decided to take, it's as if Frost is reminding you about the choices the road you didn't take, could have given you by naming the poem 'The road not taken', already brings remorse into my mind.  I also know that unfortunately, due to the current circumstances we are under, I have to be...
